Foodie Pen Pals Quick Post

Some details about Foodie Penpals.  In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US, Canadian & European residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. Same with Europeans. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

If you’re from the US or Canada and are in participating for June, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions.

You must submit your information by June 4th as pairings will be emailed on June 5th!

This month i was matched with Scott, who doesn’t have a blog, or i’d totally link to it.  It was a great package with fresh baked bread, fancy almonds, some balsamic vinegar and dried strawberries.  The bread got a little beat up during shipping, but it was quite good!  I opened it when i got home from work on Friday and had to snag a piece right away.  Duncan didn’t love it, but he’s less of a bread person than me.  I have the strawberries as part of lunch today, but i love dried fruit, so i’m sure they’ll disappear quickly.  With my CSA starting next week I’m sure the vinegar won’t last long, since it’s one of my favorite summertime flavors (oh, and while the weekend might of been in the 40’s, it’s now in the high 80’s and low 90’s here in CT… so it’s summer!).  I haven’t had a chance to check out the almonds yet, but i have a plan involving salad for them.

YAY another fun box!

Foodie Pen Pals, March!

I know, I know, the PE exam has eaten me alive, and i haven’t been blogging.  Add to that i’ll be writing at Our Poly  Home & House Rose soon (we’ll get to those in another post) and yeah, no writing from your domestic geek.

But!  I did get a lovely package this month!  Catherine, of Pursuing Domestic Goddessness sent me a great package! It turns out she’s in Worcester, home of my college alma mater, so we had some fun chatting about that.  And she grew up just a few towns from where i live now!  It’s really a small world.

The box. This is the best part of FPP. The mystery of what’s inside!!!!

The goods

And here’s what there was:

  • Sweets from The Crown Bakery, a Worcester favorite. These didn’t last long. Fresh bakery items, i had to eat them fast, ya know, before they went bad.
  • Newton Fruit Thins – Fig & Honey, which i was nervous about, not being a fan of Fig Newtons, but these are SO yummy. They are very thin, but a great texture and taste!
  • Harney & Sons black currant tea, which is about to be opened today so i can drink some and study.  I hadn’t ever had currant flavored things until recently, but i like it, so i’m sure this will be some wonderful tea!
  • 34 degree crisps peppery crackers, which i haven’t gotten to try yet, but i am saving for a special occasion.  One Ian, with a pepper allergy, isn’t around for.
  • Lake Champlain Rum Caramel Chocolate.  The chocolate… that i savored for a few days, a piece a day. WOW. Wow. Wow.  Again, something i wasn’t sure i would like, the rum caramel, was so incredibly happy making.

I really loved that she took the time in her letter to explain why she picked what she did and her connections with these things.  I can’t wait to try the recipe she included too!

Foodie Pen Pals, February Edition

Having had such good luck last month, I participated in Foodie Pen Pals again!  I sent a package over to the lovely Joanna at the Midwestern Bite, but apparently did something wrong because her package hadn’t arrived!  I’ll be sending her a re-do if it doesn’t arrive soon.

Nicky at Our Little Family Adventure sent me a package with all kinds of goodies!

I wanted to open this to see what goodies were inside, but, i was on a conference call with my phone (aka camera) and had to wait TWO HOURS looking at the pretty sparkles before i could find out!

First i read the lovely card. The photo doesn't do it justice.

But once i got to open things, i found LOTS of goodies!!!

The Valentine’s chocolates didn’t last long!  I’d been awful sick on Valentine’s day, and none of my partners are really into it, so all i received was popsicles and ginger ale from Duncan.  When i was able to eat ‘real’ food again, i totally went for the candy!

These peanut butter pretzel nuggets were awesome. Just salty enough and really satisfying. I kept wanting just one more while i was studying!

She also included this soup mix. It's been so cold and rainy here, it sounded delicious. I decided to make some using the crock pot.

This is how it came out with some chicken, corn and peppers added. YUM!

I mentioned being on a ginger kick and Nicky delivered! These cookies are wonderfully strong ginger snaps, nice and crisp and perfect for my lunches at work.

I haven't had the chance to try these teas or hot coco yet. Maybe later tonight. Have i mentioned cold and rainy?

Duncan was very excited about the spaetzle, but we haven’t made it yet.  I’m excited too.  The pocky is a nice lunch treat, and i’m hoping to try the dried fruit in my lunches soon.

Thank you so much Nicky, this really was a wonderful box!!!

Even lucky was excited to investigate

Foodie Pen Pals!

Today i get to tell you all about my first month as a Foodie Pen Pal!

Since it was my first go, let me explain a little.  Each person is assigned a pen pal, and you send them up to $15 worth of goodies.  In exchange, someone else is assigned to you, and they send you a box of goodies.  I was assigned Accidently Delish (sounds like she was happy!), and got  a box from Divatastic Gladiatior.

Well, Month 1 was a definite success!

I managed to send out my box on time (excellent start) and got my box from Erin when i arrived home from Arisia on Monday.  She included an awesome bread from a local to her bakery in Colorado called Great Harvest Bread.  It was an artichoke & parmesean loaf, with these big chunks of cheese in the bread, like it was injected or something.   I’ve totally had to eat a few slices a day it so it doesn’t get stale 🙂

She also included a red pepper spread, that was awesome.  I can’t wait to try it on a sandwich!   It’s one of those products i’d never of bought for myself, but am so glad i got to try.

Erin also included a sugar scrub.  I’m a huge fan of Lush’s sugar scrub, especially after i shave my legs, but it’s a luxury item.  This was a simple combo (for which i must get the recipe) of sugar, brown sugar and coconut oil.  After using it, my skin felt incredibly soft and i smelled yummy, total win!  It’s going to live next to the shower.

So thank you SO MUCH!  I really enjoyed my first Foodie Pen Pal package and can’t wait for March’s adventure!
